Caked On

Sometimes when I travel I need to rent a car. Usually I stick with the same company because over many years, their service and experience has proven to be the best.

But this time I was willing to take a risk, because my last rental a few weeks ago from this trusted agency was absolutely horrible.

The entire experience was the worst I’ve ever had.

The whole process was painfully slow, it took forever just to get my car. The car was filthy inside and out.

Dirt was caked on so thick; I couldn’t tell if there was any visible damage underneath it!

The employee never did the standard walk around. The inside aroma reeked like smoke.

Normally, I would have never accepted this mess of a car. But this was the last car they had. So I couldn’t even ask.

They could have washed it. But they decided not to, and gave the excuse that it was too cold outside. It was 45 degrees. They had the worst attitude. So many balls were dropped. I said “never again”.

So, last week, I went out of my comfort zone and tried a new car rental agency. I had no idea what to expect. I never used them before. No one I know even suggested this company. In fact, their name caused me concern. It just sounded extremely cheap.

At the airport, the employee at the check in counter was very nice. The process was efficient. The car was impeccable inside and out. Not a spot on it. It even smelled clean.

What a relief! I was so excited. I felt like I was given a special treat, even though this quality experience was what I was used to.

Forgive Us Father that We the Church tend to treat You like a car rental and call on Your Name only when We need You.

Forgive Us Father that We the Church can have an absolutely horrific experience with the body of believers We belong to and end up with the worst attitude because change is painfully slow process.

Forgive Us Father that We the Church sometimes have dirt caked on Us, so thick that it covers all the hidden damage We have experienced in Our broken lives. And We hope that Others don’t see it.

Maybe We Forgot that You are always willing to wash Us up clean, inside and out, no matter how outside of Your will We are or how cold our hearts may be.

Maybe We Forgot that You, Jesus stepped out of Your comfort zone and gave Us a New Name that not only sounds extremely valuable, but also IS.

Maybe We Forgot that You like to take a risk with Us despite Our mess, You don’t say “never again” when it comes to using Us for Your glory.

With the covering of the blood of Jesus We are impeccable. (Matthew 26:28)

With His sacrifice, God does not see a spot of sin on us. (Hebrews 9:14)

With His love, He would have still chosen You, even if You were the last one.

No balls are dropped. Ever.
