Friday Nite Lights

Football. My favorite sport. The game is a constant demonstration of pure raw power. Constant violent hits. Pure adrenaline rush. And that’s just watching it.
When I was a kid, my dad would quarterback and we would run plays in the front yard. In college, I played intramurals. I was a running back.
It was a blast. Love to watch it. Love to play it.

Like any sport, a good football team has to PRACTICE.
Lots of running, lots of passes, lots of hits, lots of sweat.
Lots of hours doing simple, but important DRILLS.
Each player KNOWS basic skills will be reviewed every practice.
Watching a good football practice is like watching a well-choreographed play.
Actually PARTICIPATING in that good practice is an encouraging experience.
Sometimes it’s even exhilarating.
Because you put in the time.
Because you sweat.
Because you worked together as a team.
Because you practiced the basic skills the right way.
Because you obediently executed the drills.
Because you were motivated and inspired.

Last Friday night we had a “football game” in our back yard.
It was called our Praise Event.
We called together the Christians that had played on our team, during the campaign.
We knew that it was important to get together.
We HAD to meet specifically to sing Praise to our Coach, Jesus.
There were 100 people at our house that night.
They represented 25 different churches from District 36.
It was a demonstration of pure raw HOLY SPIRIT power.
Only Almighty God could bring together a TEAM like that.
Only Almighty God could create an UNBELIEVABLE MIRACLE like that.
Only Almighty God could UNIFY His team like that.
Only Almighty God could ENCOURAGE His team like that.
Only Almighty God could MOTIVATE and INSPIRE His team like that.

The Praise Event was like watching a good football practice.
Looking at everyone there, we saw that they represented all the basic skills necessary to create a powerful team.
People were there that put in the time of PRAYER
People were there that put in the gift of encouragement.
People were there that put in the energy of volunteering.
People were there that put in the resources of money.
People that obediently executed those drills, made this team.
And these people weren’t sitting back watching this game,
They were ACTIVE participants.

You say, well that sounds great but there is no violence, no hits.
After all, isn’t that what football is about?
Well, I gotta tell you…
There were constant HITS on that Friday night.
HITS to the kingdom of darkness.
With every Praise song we sang, Satan got SLAMMED.
With every prayer we prayed, Satan got STOMPED ON.
Oh there was VIOLENCE alright.
And it was NOT forgotten.
We were reminded that this battle for District 36 is NOT OVER.
We are just beginning to UNITE.
As a Team for JESUS CHRIST!
We are pressing on toward the GOAL to win the prize for Jesus Phil 3:14

PRAY for: This new united team of believers to continue on in District 36. We plan to have another “Friday Nite Lights” in about a month. Pray for the individuals that were here to represent at their churches, and be the salt and light.

PRAY for: The pastors and leaders of the churches in District 36 to be open to Salt and Light Ministry to be at their church. For those pastors/leaders to be revived by the power of the Holy Spirit.

PRAY for: Craig and Shelly as they pray and fast for guidance and direction regarding running in 2012. For divine opportunities and platforms for them to speak at churches and anywhere else God wants them.

Gold Rush

Back in the day, pioneers DECIDED to take a huge RISK,
They saddled up their horses and rode to California.
It was the lure for wealth that brought them here, the bait of gold.
California was the promised land,the land of abundance, land of hopes, land of dreams.They carefully looked at everything that they owned. They decided what they had to get RID OF so that they could travel light.
They knew that the journey was long and grueling.
So they sold most of their furniture, it took up too much space.
They sold most of their tools. They took only what they needed to survive.
With the money that they made, they bought grain and foods that would LAST.

Along the way they experienced the worst things imaginable.
Desert heat waves, flooding, lack of water, hunger, snow storms, disease, broken down wagons, Burning of precious cargo just to stay warm, death of animals, death of friends, death of kids, death of spouses.
But they survived. They made it to California.
They settled into their dream and GOT TO WORK.
Towns formed within months. And the WORD GOT OUT. They found gold.

You are a pioneer. You’ve heard about the promised land.
You heard that Jesus Christ was the bait to take you there.
So you decided to take a huge risk and bought it.  Hook, line, and sinker.
You heard Jesus has a perfect plan for your life. His land gave you hope. His land reignited your dreams. His land promised abundance.
And you believed it. Because it’s true.

But along the way you have experienced some of the worst things imaginable.
Disease, divorce, loss of friends, loss of loved ones, loss of jobs, loss of kids.
Broken down dreams, waves of failure, floods of bankruptcy.
And you found yourself in a desert.

Yes, the journey can feel long and grueling.
But since you are a pioneer, you knew that.
But I gotta ask…
Are you traveling light? Matt 11:30
Have you carefully looked at what you need to get RID of in your life? Eph 4:31
Are you still holding onto your furniture? THINGS that “support” you?
Are you holding on tight to the “securities” of this world? Savings, IRA’s, 401K’s, Stocks? John 14:1
Are you counting on YOUR tools and YOUR skills to help you survive?
How much time do you invest in GOD’s Word, the only food that lasts? John 6:35

Like THOSE pioneers, you must unload.
Unload your burdens on Jesus.
The pioneers that SURVIVED entered the promised land.
And so will you. You are a survivor.
Those pioneers didn’t stop.
They didn’t give up.
They settled in and GOT TO WORK.
And you need to settle into the dream God called you to and GET TO WORK.
And you need to not be ashamed of the gospel, and GET THE WORD OUT.
After all, you have found something BETTER than gold. That is JESUS. 1Peter 1:7

We want to see another Gold Rush here in California. This time it’s about JESUS.
And we don’t have to go looking for Him in the hills. Because He is in you and me.
He already found us.

Come join us as we praise our one and only source of eternal wealth, Jesus.

Day Off

A chance to be refreshed and transformed.
No expectations, you just wanna chill.
Mentally, you wanna unplug.
Just do what you want.

After all, you worked hard.
You deserve a break.
You know you don’t have to get up early the next day.
In fact, you don’t set your alarm.

You wake up naturally.
You open your eyes. You just lay there.
Your bed is so comfortable.
You don’t move.
Because you don’t have to.

You don’t have to do anything.
You have no schedule to keep.
You have no one reminding you of where you should be.
You have nobody putting pressure on you.
There is no urgency.

The church here in California District 36 is having an extended day off.
Oh, they are awake, but they are just laying there.
In fact, their eyes are open.
But they are too comfortable.
So they don’t MOVE.

They think they don’t have to.
They think they don’t have to DO.
Oh, they have schedules. Lots of church activities.
No urgency.

No one from the community reminds them of where they SHOULD be.
Serving the widows and the poor.
Serving the broken and downtrodden.
Serving the activists, the tax collectors, the religious.
Serving the captives, the oppressed, the ones in bondage.

No one from the community puts PRESSURE on the church
To offer solutions to the community problems.
To offer hope to the hopeless.
To offer peace to the helpless.
To offer joy to the weary.

So, the community really doesn’t look to the church to DO.
They have NO expectations of the church.
They see the church as “mentally unplugged.”
They see the church as “just wanting to chill.”
They see the church as “taking a day off.”

Set YOUR alarms church.
And don’t hit the snooze button.
District 36 needs an “ACTIVE DUTY” church.
A church that GETS UP and GETS OUT of bed.
Even on its “day off.”

You worked hard.
His work of the cross for YOU was hard.
You deserve a break.
He was broken for YOU.
You may not have to get up on time.
He ROSE from the dead; on time.

Because of Him,
You are Unstoppable.
You are “plugged in” to Holy Spirit power.
Submit to Him.
Just do it.

Then the community of District 36 will SEE Jesus.
They will see He is the answer.
They will see His power.
They will see His deliverance.
They will see His healing.

And they will be refreshed and transformed.

We, church need to be refreshed and transformed!

Victory Update – Starters

During the past few months you’ve received timely alerts from Prayer Updates during the Craig Huey campaign for Congress. Certainly Craig appreciates all your support, but with the election over we are changing gears and changing our name.

It’s official! Welcome to Victory Prayer Update. Starting with this email, you’ll continue to receive prayer-worthy alerts, news and updates. Only now they will come from the desk of Shelly Huey, Craig’s other half.

So check your email box filters and make sure your issue of Victory Prayer Update doesn’t end up in your spam filter.

Starters

Coaches pick starters in each game that their team plays.
Doesn’t matter what the sport.
The coach sees if they show up to PRACTICE.
And if they SHOW UP on time.
The coach sees if they are READY to play.
If they have the right shoes, right equipment, right uniform.
If they have the right ATTITUDE.
If they are ready to give it their ALL.
Starters have to demonstrate amazing skill.
They have to demonstrate ability to persevere.
They have to want to get in the middle of the heat.
They have to not care if they take some hits.
They have to “suck it up” if they get hurt.
They have to NOT QUIT.
They have to have the burning desire to WIN.

Starters GET to play in the game.
They know that the coach TRUSTS them to do their job.

YOU are starters.
YOUR coach, Jesus Christ, picked YOU.
To start on His team.
To play in an eternal game.
To wreak havoc on the opposition.
He trusts YOU.

You say “Send Me.”
My question is have you showed up to practice? Phil 4:9
Are you Ready to engage in a battle? Eph 5:16
How about that uniform? Eph 6, Col 3:12
What about YOUR attitude? Phil 2:5
Are you ready to SACRIFICE it all for this game? Romans 12:1

If so, then be ready to take some heat.
Be ready to take some hits.
Suck it up, church.
Don’t quit.
Don’t sit on the bench.
You’ve got the skills.
Now burn with desire to win.

Your coach Jesus is counting on YOU.
YOU are going to play.
YOU are a starter.

Maybe YOU have taken some heat.
Maybe YOU have taken some hits.
Maybe YOUR name has been slandered.
Maybe YOU have been persecuted.
Maybe YOU have been despised.
Maybe YOU were called names.
Maybe YOU were rejected.

Guess what?
So was YOUR coach.

YOU get to stay in the game.
YOU get to fight the good fight.
YOU get to REJOICE.
Despite the bruises, wounds and emotional scars.

Because YOUR coach is the I AM.
He coaches a winning team.  The All-Stars.  ALWAYS.
He is UNDEFEATED.
Now and forever.

What’s next for YOU and US?

Well, we took some serious heat, endured massive slander, took some hard hits. We were persecuted, despised and rejected. Even called names.

Despite all this, we MUST PRAISE HIS NAME!!! We need YOU to join US.

Come REJOICE with us! We are having a night of PRAISE to glorify our coach, Jesus.

PRAY for: Redistricting decisions for District 36, that God would be glorified. That Craig would have clear direction regarding running in 2012.

PRAY for: Continued connections/platforms for Craig, for the many lives that we were able to touch, to be transformed by the sanctification power of our Lord.

PRAY for: Pastors and churches in District 36 to stay awake.
